Biography

Dr Stopford is currently non-executive President of Clarkson Research Services Limited (CRSL) and Director of MarEcon Ltd. He is visiting Professor at Cass Business School, Dalian Maritime University and Newcastle University and has an Honorary Doctorate from Solent University. His publications include “Maritime Economics” 3rd Ed, the widely-used shipping textbook (2009), now translated into Japanese, Greek, Brazilian Portuguese, Korean and Turkish. Also, many papers on shipping economics and ship finance.

 

Awards: Lloyds List Lifetime Achievement Award 2010; Seatrade Global Shipping Personality of the Year 2013; Onassis Prize for Shipping 2015; Capital Link Shipping Leadership Award 2016.

Director of Korea Blockchain Industry Promotion Association
Dr. Seong Gon Kim has graduated a Bachelor’s degree in Law, got master’s degree in Commercial Law and completed the Doctor Course in Commercial Law from Hanyang University in Seoul Korea (ABD). 
During a Ph.D., he was invited from the University of Konstanz in Germany through DAAD program. After his scholarship, he entered to the Marburg University and majored in Company and Capital Market Law but he doctorated in Company and Capital Market Law at the University of Göttingen in Germany.
He passed oral examination and received a degree of Doktor der Rechte(Dr. iuris) in June, 2017. Then he worked as a visiting scholar at the Blockchain Center of University Kassel and studied development and policy direction related to Blockchain Technology in Europe. Since Oct. 2018, Chungbuk opened the first Blockchain Promotion Center among the local government. He has appointed as the first director of Chungbuk Blockchain Promtion Center and was in charge of Blockchain Technology related tasks till Feb. 2020. He also was serving as Research Professor at Korea University in Seoul.

Dr. Kim got a PhD degree in Thermal & Combustion Engineering at Jeonbuk National University. Previously, he worked at the KIMM (Korea Institute of Machinery and Materials) as an expert in thermal engineering, atmospheric and greenhouse gas reduction. In 2012, he joined the KR (Korean Register). In addition, the company carried out tasks related to the application of gas fueled vessels, air pollution, and greenhouse gas reduction from ship. Biography

Jacques Dam graduated from the Technical University of Delft (TUD), the Netherlands in Applied Physics. He obtained his PhD degree in 1989 for the discovery, development and deployment of an impregnated, superconducting whole-body MRI system. Since 1989, he has a long track record in designing and developing cryogenic, cooling and vacuum systems.


He worked at the French-Dutch design team of the superconducting AGOR cyclotron, now in operation at the Rijksuniversiteit Groningen, the Netherlands (RUG), at Stirling cryogenics as senior consultant responsible for the design of many HTS closed sub-cooled LIN cooling systems at ESA designing and building cooling systems for the space industry, at Thales cryogenics, and at Stork Inoteq for the development of dedicated cryogenic systems for the LNG industry. 


In 2011, he became the director of science at the LNG TR&D Foundation and was appointed in 2012 as senior scientist at the Dutch Energy Valley Foundation for the development of an European LNG fuel supply chain. In 2012 he was appointed as professor at the Technical University Eindhoven, the Netherlands, TU/e Energy Technology group for the development of LNG systems over the entire upstream and downstream LNG chain. 


In 2015, he was appointed as lector Sustainable LNG Technology at the Hanze University of Applied Sciences, Groningen, the Netherlands for the development of sustainable LNG technologies and initiating collaboration programs with the Hanze University and the TU/e, thus partially closing the knowledge gap between both institutions. 


Currently, Professor Jacques Dam is working on sustainable, cryogenic fuels and fuel technology in a social-economic-technical fuel chain context, and works as consultant for AVL Graz, Austria, on alternative fuels especially on hydrogen enriched SLNG and GHG reduction technology.

Kasper Søgaard is Head of Research at the Global Maritime Forum, an international not-for-profit foundation dedicated to shaping the future of global seaborne trade to increase sustainable long-term economic development and human wellbeing. The Global Maritime Forum is a founding partner of the Getting to Zero Coalition, which aims to make commercially zero emission deep sea vessels a reality by 2030. Before joining the Global Maritime Forum Kasper worked for the Danish government in a variety of roles including as Head of Division at the Danish Ministry of Business responsible for maritime policy and as Director of Shipping Policy at the Danish Maritime Authority.

Biography

Dr. Sun Young Kim is a Principal Researcher working for KRISO at the Department of Autonomous & Intelligent Maritime Systems Research Division. He has studied at Seoul National University in the department of Naval Architecture from 1979 to 1985 and got a master degree of engineering. He got a doctor degree from Hiroshima University, Japan in 1993, He has been working for KRISO since 1985, where he has devoted himself to establish the experimental and numerical techniques for the prediction of ship manoeuvrability. He has been also working to develop ship handling simulator, maritime safety and e-navigation system. He was a ITTC manoeuvring committee member from 2006 to 2014. He also worked for IMO to develop IMO manoeuvring standards and e-Navigation strategy implementation plan. Since 2011, he has been doing research for Unmanned Surface Vehicle. Recently, he has succeeded to develop an autonomous USV, ARAGON 3, which is able to carry out maritime surveillance and ocean survey.

Dr. PARK, Han-Seon is director and research fellow of the Maritime Safety Department in Maritime Industry & Safety Division in Korea Maritime Institute (KMI) from Sep 2015. He was a former General Manager and the Head of Green Growth Office in KST (Korea Ship Safety Technology Authority) of Republic of Korea (ROK) where he has engaged as a principal ship surveyor for about 17years after working for Hanjin Shipping Co. Ltd for 3years and 4months as second engineer on board.

 

He graduated from the World Maritime University (Maritime Safety Environment Administration, M.Sc.) in Sweden 2009 after the graduation of Korea Maritime and Oceans University (Marine Engineering) in 1995 and Graduate School of Korea Maritime and Oceans University (Marine Engineering) in 2001. He graduated the Graduate School of Korea Maritime and Oceans University (Ph.D., Maritime Law & Policy) in 2014.

 

He has been a member of Korean delegation to many international meetings such as IMO MEPC 46th~53th& 60th~70th, BLG 8th~9th&14th, DSC8th, IBWWG1st~4th, Diplomatic Conference of BWM, ISWG-GHG 3st~6th, MSC 98th~101st, ASS 24th, 29th~30th, Council 28th~29th, LEG 104th~106th, EEDI-WG, MBM-WG, Update-EW, since 2001. Recently he has been jointed at the COP 16th~20th of UNFCCC since 2010. Since the second IMO GHG study, he has been on the member of steering committee of the 3th IMO GHG study.

 

Dr. Park has many times engaged as a consultant and advisor of IMO capacity-building project against climate change and Climate Change Partnerships for East Asian Countries. He also carried out international cooperation projects related to capacity-building for enhancing ship safety in Algeria from 2006 to 2007, building capacities in East Asian Countries to address GHG emissions from ships by IMO-KOICA from 2012 to 2013 and capacity building for ship safety and marine environment in Indonesia from 2013 to 2015 funded by KOICA.


Dr. Park is author or co-author of some books, dissertations & articles on themes with regard to climate change, Autonomous & Digitalized Ship and has been a lecture at Korea Maritime and Ocean University and SungKyunKwan University in Seoul when it comes to climate change and green & smart ship technology as well as maritime safety and marine pollution prevention technology.

Job career

Specialist Director in the Norwegian Ministry of Climate and Environment with focus on international negotiations on environmental requirements for the maritime sector. He has also been working with these issues in the Norwegian Maritime Directorate and for several years been acting as Norwegian Head of Delegation to the International Maritime Organization (IMO) at the Marine Environment Protection Committee and several IMO Diplomatic Conferences.


He has been heavily involved in negotiations on the hot topics at the IMO such as Greenhouse Gas Emissions, Air Pollution and other issues addressed in MARPOL, Ship Recycling, Ballast Water Management, Antifouling Systems and other environmental issues for over two decades.

He is a key person in Norwegian green shipping policies. He has also been involved in regional cooperation in the EU, such as the ESSF, and other relevant international arenas for cooperation on green shipping.


Chairman of the IMO BLG and PPR Sub-Committee (2010 – 2019) and is currently Chairman of the IMO Working Group on Greenhouse Gas emissions, and Coordinator of the IMO/PPR Correspondence group on biofouling.

Dr Jeong is currently working as Lecturer of Marine Engineering at the Department of Naval Architecture, Ocean and Marine Engineering, University of Strathclyde. Prior to the appointment, he was working at Korean Register as a marine surveyor over six and half years and worked at Hyundai Merchant Marine Co. Ltd as a sea-going marine engineer on board five merchant ships over three years. His practical experience, therefore, is wide-ranging from looking after on-board machinery to class-related work. Muk Chen Ong is a Professor in Marine Technology and Marine Operations at University of Stavanger (UiS), Norway and a member of Norwegian Academy of Technological Sciences (NTVA). He is currently Strategic Research Area Leader for Ocean, Leader of Ocean Technology Innovation Cluster Stavanger, UiS EU Project Positioning Coordinator for Ocean Technology and Head of Marine and Subsea Technology Group at UiS. He is also a key researcher in Norwegian Research Centre for Offshore Wind Technology (NOWITECH). He has published over 140 international journal and conference papers. He is an Associate Editor of ASME Journal of Offshore Mechanics and Arctic Engineering, an Editorial Board Member of Proceedings of the Institution of Civil Engineers - Maritime Engineering, an Editorial Board Member of Journal of the Korean Society of Fisheries and Ocean Technology, and an Editorial Board Member of Ocean Systems Engineering (International Journal).
